Membership
The club currently has around 120 members, increasing a little each year, from across the Watford, Slough, Beaconsfield, Rickmansworth, Harrow, Ruislip, Ickenham area and few further afield.
The club accepts both existing pilots and novices and has run a training scheme for many years to get new pilots flying. If you are completely new to flying and looking to start, we'd suggest coming to visit us before buying equipment - we can then advise on what is suitable.
Training
The club permits any competent pilot to assist those that need training, however almost all training for novices is done by a core group of instructors with many years of experience. We have several BMFA-approved instructors in fixed-wing and drone flying, and also BMFA examiners specialising in fixed-wing power, drone and helicopter who can issue certificates for the BMFA achievement scheme in all these disciplines.
All fixed-wing training is done using dual control radio, so the instructor can prevent mistakes smashing models. Drones can be learnt without the dual control by hovering lowish, with just some assistance or supervision from an instructor. Our normal training sessions are Saturday mornings and Weds afternoon/evening at the Harefield site.
Fees
Membership fees for 2025 are (joining fee is paid for first year only in addition to annual fee)

In addition, all members are required to hold BMFA membership which costs £49 adults, £20 juniors.
It is also a legal requirement to register with the CAA to fly any drones or models, which can be done directly, but is preferably done via the club and BMFA. The fee for this is £11 if paid via the club (it is slightly more if paid
directly)
Both of these are only needed once - if you already fly elsewhere you should already have these.
Members joining from August onwards pay half the club subs and a reduced rate for the BMFA.
